The winning plan, the “Hartwell,” was originally designed during a class that Pippin was attending. Created for her final project, the home earned her a Certificate in Classical Architecture from the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America. The plan is now available as one of the over 50 plans that Pippin has in the Homes with a View plan book.

The Italianate style has several identifying characteristics. Homes in this style are typically two to three stories and feature a low-pitched roof with widely overhanging eaves that have decorative brackets. Tall narrow windows that are arched or curved at the top and a square cupola or tower are also very common.
