Home Building Tips: Save Time by Making Decisions Early

Many delays are caused by homeowners taking too much time to make the needed decisions to keep the construction moving in the timeline proposed. Reasons for this vary, including the difficulty in getting from place to place to make the necessary decisions, uncertainty of which materials are the best choice, and the busy and hectic schedule of the homeowner trying to find time to get it all done. Understanding and getting a head start on the many decsiions you will need to make will keep things running smoothly. Do your best to consider the following before construction even begins:

* Exterior Finish * Millwork and trim styles * Plumbing fixtures * Lighting fixtures * Appliances * Interior Finishes (walls, florring, counter tops)

Now is the perfect time to get plans rolling for building or renovation projects that you hope to start in the spring. Since custom home designs are fine tuned to meet your exact needs, the process takes longer than a "plan book home", but is worth the investment in terms of the functionality and enjoyment you will receive for years to come. Still, there are some things that can be done to minimize delays- check out this month's home building tips for more information. Also this month, we introduce you to our newest team member and give you an inside look at one of our projects. Have a great month and, as always, send us your ideas and reccomendations for our next newsletter.

Pippin's Projects
This "quintessentially Southern" lakefront home was designed so that its retired owners could take take full advantage of their beautiful waterfront view. The main goal was to recreate an old Southern Plantation-style home on a small scale.

The home offers many unique features such as built-in speakers in a raised fireplace hearth, a center dormer chandelier placed on a cable that can be lowered for cleaning and direct access to the laundry room hamper from the master suite. The Thompsons also enjoy a hidden radio inside the master bath whirlpool tub, central wiring to allow access to all hi-fi components throughout the house and pivoting lattice panels under the streetside porch for additional storage of lawn equipment.

From Jenny's Design Board

When their builder first reccommended Pippin Home Designs for their new custom home, the Welna family was full of ideas, but one thing was for sure- they wanted something unique that could accomodate their lifestyle.

As a doctor that is often disturbed at night, they requested a master suite designed to allow one person to leave the sleeping area, get bathed and dressed without having to disturb the person left sleeping. Also, the laundry area needed to be convenient to the master suite without noise passing to the sleeping area.

As a family that enjoys the outdoors, incorporating a variety of covered and screen porches was a must. From the front, the couple can watch sunset while the rear porch has double fireplaces. There are also porch areas for outdoor entertaining with a summer kitchen, and a small screened porch for dining.

Plan Book Now Available Online!

After the release of our plan book last year, we have had several requests for access to view the plans via the Pippin Home Designs website. In response to these requests, we have recently added the basic information, elevations and floor plans to our website. This will provide easy access to the contents of the plan book, with the individual plans or paper copies of the plan book still available for purchase through our office.

As the finishing touches are going into the second volume of our plan book, we will incorporate these into our website as well. Stay tuned for announcements regarding the release of "Homes With A View- Volume Two".
